India's quarterfinal door still open: All eyes on Oman vs Bahrain at AVC Championship 2026

India's first win at the 2026 AVC Men's Volleyball Asian Championship has arrived, but their quarterfinal ticket is still not sealed. Outside hitter Chirag Yadav added 14 points with three aces and one block, while fellow outside Amit Balwan Singh contributed 13 points and two blocks. For New Zealand, opposite Seth Dylan Grant scored 15 points, while outside hitters John McManaway and Mana Placid added 13 and 12, respectively. The loss ended New Zealand's quarterfinal hopes. In Pool A, Japan completed a perfect pool-stage record by sweeping Australia 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 at Kitakyushu City Gymnasium in front of about 6,500 home fans. Opposite Yuji Nishida posted a match-high 16 points with an 82 percent attack success rate. Outside hitter Ran Takahashi was equally efficient, collecting five aces and a 70 percent kill rate on the way to 13 points. Australia finished second in Pool A at 2-1, with William D'Arcy-Miles leading them with 13 points and Lorenzo Pope adding 11. Both teams had already secured quarterfinal spots before the match. In Pool C, South Korea swept Qatar 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 to finish with a 2-1 record and seven points. Qatar's opposite Mubarak Musa Thiik Madut paced all scorers with 17 points, while South Korea's outside hitter Jaeyoung Lim led his team with 15. The 2026 AVC Championship serves as an Olympic qualifier for Los Angeles 2028 and a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Cup.
